Eyes in the Dark ©1994
My very first series, this was the story of a pack of wolves living their lives in the North American woodlands of Alaska. I began developing this story before I created the Kitt Mouri universe and the World of Okanu, hence the reason why it was set on Earth. The series began with Dart and Nightfall (my way of paying homage to the incredible Wendy and Richard Pini). From here, I went on to create Shadow, Autumn, Sky, and Nightshade. Their introduction led to the idea of a neighboring pack.
At the time, Shadow was the only wolf with black fur. Everyone else had fur that was varying shades of gray. So, I decided that his differences were due to the fact that his current pack was not his natal pack. He was born into a a family in the south. He and Autumn migrated from the place of their birth when their forest home caught on fire and they had to escape the flames, along with a few new characters, including: Hunter, Twilight, Night, Sapphire, Wind, and Chorus. That was the first major change in the series, but it wasn't the biggest.
Ultimately, the series moved to my list of backburner projects, while at the same time, it got merged into one of my main series, Lion Paws. The lives of these quadruped wolves were relocated from our planet Earth, to the mythical world of, Okanu. Now, they have been reimagined as bipedal anthropomorphic being living in Adohi. Night, Shade, and Blaze, most notably, are very prominent character in their new world. Along with Mhina, Tod, and Kit, they are living their lives as one family in the peaceful town of, Tayen.
Even though the original series never took off beyond a children's book that I did for it in college, this was still the very first series that I had ever created and I am very proud of it. What's more, I am so happy that in some form, this story is still alove, today. I never would have imagined that it would come this far, but I am overjoyed that it has and I hope that it will continue to endure the vast and adventurous tests of time.
