Sweet Shoppe Characters

Candy

Candy is the fun, sporty, tomboy of the group. She's athletic and sweet, but also a little naïve. She relies on Tange, her best friend, to help her through some of the more confusing things in life and Tange has never let her down. Candy is the last out of seven children and the only girl in her family, hence the reason why she is so boyish. Her mother, Coral, passed away due to complications she had while giving birth to her. Candy has always felt a sense of guilt over her mother's passing. She believes that she is responsible for taking her mother from her brothers and her father. Ariel, her father, has tried to convince her otherwise, but her deep sense of remorse is something she has never been able to let go of. Her only redemption is that she is nearly a mirror image of Coral. She even keeps her hair long just like she did, even though she would really like to cut it down. But, she knows that it makes her father and her brothers happy to see her like this, so she does it for them.

Tange

Tange, short for Tangerine, is brilliant and beautiful. She's thoughtful and tends to err on the side of logic when a decision needs to be made. When there's a problem that needs a solution, she's usually the one that can sort it out. But, even though she is a logical girl, she is not unfeeling. Her heart is a shining star.  Tange is Candy's best friend. Together, they are the terrible twosome, also known as, the twins. Tange and Candy have an uncanny bond, as tight as sisters. As they say, you don't need to share the same blood to be sisters, you just need two hearts filled with love. Tange wants to be a doctor just like her parents. Her mother, Cherry, is a psychiatrist and her father, Tahir, is a medical doctor. When she is not working at the Sweet Shoppe or attending her regular classes at school, she is studying medical documents, shadowing her parents at their places of work, or just doing independent research on her own. Tange looks up to her older sister, Ginger, who just happens to be a waitress at Brandy's Place, the rival restaurant of the Sweet Shoppe.

Sweetheart

Sweetheart is the young proprietor of Sweet Shoppe. It had always been a dream of her and her mother to open a little café in the heart of Calico City where they could treat their townsfolk to the most delicious treats to brighten up their day. Sweetheart is generous and kindhearted. Her gentle nature lends itself to fulfill her passion; running the Sweet Shoppe to serve her community with delightfully comforting food. Sweetheart's gentleness is also what makes her a good sister, a wonderful daughter, a loyal friend, and a devoted girlfriend. She is very family-oriented and it shows.

After the death of her mother, Diana, and nearly all of her siblings save for her youngest sister, Amber, during the tragedy of the Great Flood, Sweetheart assumed the role of the family's matriarch. She looks after her sister and their wheelchair-bound father, Bellen, caring for them both. It's sometimes hardwork, but she does it happily. If it's for her family or her friends, she will do anything.

Mint

Mint is the exotic beauty from a distant land. Not born on the big island of Calico, Mint is from the little kingdom of, Kitwa. Mint is elegant, patient, and wise. The girls often turn to her for a word of wisdom or enlightenment on proper etiquette. She speaks with a Kitwanese accent which the girls and very nearly everyone that meets her finds enchanting. But, even more mesmerizing than her voice, is her dancing. She's a belly dancer, a form of dance that is quite common on Kitwa. Among her peers, she is considered the best dancer in her kingdom. Using veils to enhance the allure of her movements, she resembles the graceful movements of billowing incense smoke.

Along with her natural, mysterious look, Mint is also hiding an incredible secret. All is not as it seems, or rather, she is not all she seems. There is more to her than meets the eye.

Sugar

Sugar is the girl that is as sweet as her name. Like Mint, Sugar is not a native of Calico. She is from the kingdom of, Cathal. She is the youngest child among 4 siblings. Her older brother and sisters are outgoing and confident, but by contrast, Sugar is shy and a little insecure. Her friends try to help her to believe in herself and to see the wonderful girl that they see in her, but it's a challenging uphill battle that she has yet to overcome. Even so, she is lovely and kind to others and has genuine concern for the wellbeing of others, especially her family and close friends.

Plum

Plum is Sweetheart's closest friend and the savvy, no-nonsense assistant manager of Sweet Shoppe. She's clever and cool and very levelheaded. Sweetheart finds herself relying on her often for her guidance and support, however, Sweetheart isn't the only one that depends on her. Plum is one of 10 siblings. She, and her brothers, Page and Emeril are triplets and the oldest members of their family. After the loss of their parents, the three of them assumed the roles of caretakers to their 7 younger siblings. Plum is very much like a mother to them and has made many sacrifices to take care of them. Thankfully, in Catriona Isles, no one is left behind and the community rallied to help make sure the needs of the family of orphans were met.

Boomer

Boomer is a young fisherman who works hard to care for his mother and younger brother. He's also Sweetheart's devoted boyfriend. Boomer's parents moved to Calico City after leaving their home among the forest-dwelling tribe of Red Hawks. Red Hawks are a very tall race of cats and as such, Boomer is significantly taller and stronger than the villagers around him. It's something that comes in handy when it's time to haul the fish nets in.

After the Great Flood, Boomer lost most of his family to the disaster. It was only because of his heroic actions that any members of his family survived, as he managed to rescue his mother and youngest brother, Malki. Boomer is courageous and strong and as the new head of his family, he is also very responsible and understands the value of family. He works hard to provide for his mother and brother and with the help of the town's folk, they have what they need to live their lives, happily.

Amber & Malki

Sweetheart's little sister and Boomer's little brother, Amber and Malki are a pair playful kittens that though different in practically every way, are virtually inseparable. Where you find one, you will often find the other.

Amber is playful and innocent. She adores her big sister who she looks at more as a mother than a sibling, as Sweetheart, along with their father, raised her from the time she was just an infant. Like Boomer and Malki, Amber and Sweetheart lost most of their family during the events of the Great Flood. On that day, Sweetheart, Amber, and Amber's twin sister, Flora were swept away by the typhoon. Sweetheart fought bravely and through her endurance and determination, she managed to save one of her infant sister's lives, though tragically, she could not save the other. Amber, of course, doesn't remember any of this. She just knows that she loves her big sister and always wants her to be nearby.

Malki acts tough, but really, he's quite sweet. He wants to be a strong warrior like his brother and believes that he has to be like an unmovable rock in order to be that person. But, he also sees how affectionate Boomer is and also, he loves his mother who absolutely showers him with love and tenderness. To those smaller than him and more vulnerable than him, he will always stand up and fight for them. His relationship with Amber is a mirror of his brother's relationship with Sweetheart...sort of. Both kittens think that they are supposed to be together, because that's what their older siblings do. They don't really understand that there's more to it than that, but they have a lot of time to learn and sort their feelings out, together.

Brandy

Brandy is the owner of Brandy's Place and the bane of Sweetheart's existence. She is entitled and snooty and loves to get under Sweetheart's fur. She's manipulative and cunning and no matter what the situation, she can always find a way to get what she wants...except the thing that she wants the most. Her deepest desire is something that Sweetheart possesses, but will never surrender. This is the reason why Brandy offers nothing but harassment to the golden queen.

Though she is plagued with faults, Brandy is not without her good qualities. As it is, she is rather fond of Amber. She is even secretly impressed at how Sweetheart fought with all her might to save her and Flora during the Great Flood. It's something that she finds admirable, even though she would never admit it to her.

Tennessee

A mischievous fox from the country of Adohi, Tennessee is a trade negotiator for various merchants. He brokers bartering agreements for goods. One of Calico's most sought after goods are their ostriches. The meat and eggs of the giant birds make for desirable sources of food for the people of Adohi. In exchange for timber, spices, and other products, he draws up contracts for the parties involved in the bartering agreements.

Tennessee is a swift fox, one of the rarest species of foxes in the world. He is playful and self-assured, but also respectful and considerate. His mischief led to an encounter with Plum that didn't leave a good first impression with the fiesty, purple queen, but left a lasting impression on him. Once he met her, he couldn't get her out of his mind and thanks to Sweetheart, he was given a second chance at a fresh start with the lovely, lavender lady.

Alder (Crowned Prince of Calico)

Alder is the Crowned Prince of Calico. Though he is a triplet, he was the first to be born and will therefore be the one to bear the weight of the crown when his father steps down from the throne. Alder is generous and kind. He is referred to as, "the light of hope" to his citizens. He has an ability to reach the deepest part of others and dispel feelings of grief and worry. He is a great source of comfort to his people. His empathetic nature is calming to others which makes him easily approachable, despite being a prince.

Alder is very protective of his younger brothers, Arjuna and Palm. He always looks out for their wellbeing and does whatever he can for their happiness. They always feel a sense of security as long as their big brother is around. As long as he is there, they know that no matter what, everything will be alright in the end. But, though his relationship with his brothers is one of deep affection, his relationship with his father, Artemis, the Emperor of Calico, couldn't be more contrary.

Arjuna (Second Prince of Calico)

Arjuna is the Second Prince of Calico. He was the next to be birthed after Alder and just before Palm. Arjuna is gentle and sweet. He has a very warm demeanor and is very polite, very much like his deceased aunt, the Crowned Princess, Princess Ajua. He bears an almost identical resemblance to his father's older sister, so much that it is widely believed that he might even bear the spirit of, or is a reincarnation of the late princess.

Arjuna also has a very romantic heart. Arjuna was the first of the three princes to receive his bride. He was betrothed to the Third Princess of Kitwa, Princess Amarah. The Calico Princes and the Kitwa Princesses had been acquainted with each other since they were kittens. They grew to become close friends and over time, Arjuna fell in love with the friend he had known since his childhood.

Palm (Third Prince of Calico)

Palm is the Third Prince of Calico. He was the last of the triplets to emerge into the world. Palm is enigmatic and brilliant. His mind runs a mile a minute. When there's a problem that needs to be solved, he is a reliably called upon to devise a solution. He is rational and practical, but around his family, especially his brothers, he is also playful and mischievous. He is also somewhat introverted and, for the most part, fairly quiet.

Palm is adept at learning and studying. He enjoys the pursuit of knowledge and can find a learning experience in all things. At a very young age, he showed interest in playing the piano. When his parents asked if he wanted to take lesson, he declined and opted, instead, to teach himself. On the surface, Palm is viewed as cold and unfeeling, but to the people that know him well, they know that nothing could be further from the truth. He guards his feelings and protects himself from allowing his feelings to control him. But, when he is with his family, particularly his brothers and mother, Avalon, he can be very affectionate. And when he is only with his brothers, the two people in the world that understand him the most, he will even let down his guard and be open and vulnerable.
